You're right, Russia lost in the end, however it inspired many Japanese artists and musicians to do more art and music romanticizing war, to encourage the folk to join in the ranks and die for the Emperor. However, the clash of this new kind of warfare also made the horror and true reality of war more apparent, which inspired many songs and poems about those forementioned themes, cuz Japan has that kind of deep and unique honor and spiritual thing engraved in their psyche.
